History of the Board
The First Board
On February 17, 1951, House Bill 76 of the 1951 Legislative Session was enacted creating the Wyoming State Board of Architects. Newly inaugurated Governor Frank A. Barrett appointed Sam C. Hutchings of Cheyenne for a one year term, Leon C. Goodrich of Casper for a two year term, and Frederic H. Porter of Cheyenne for a three year term. The initial meeting of the Board was held on March 30, 1951. The first order of business was to elect officers. Mr. Hutchings was elected as President, Mr. Goodrich was elected as Vice-President, and Mr. Porter was elected as Secretary/Treasurer. The Board then went on to discuss other business items such as the design of the license certificate, numbering sequence, application form design, examination format, seal design, supplies, and payment of expenses.
The 1991 legislation added the regulation of the practice of landscape architecture, increased the membership of the Board to five, and changed the Board's name to the Wyoming State Board of Architects and Landscape Architects. On March 1, 1991 Jim Verdone of Jackson was appointed as the first Landscape Architect to the Board. James Beck of Lander was appointed as the first Public Member.
